“Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ”

Pastor Rick Robledo – March 30, 2025

Romans 6:1-2 -  “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means!

1 Corinthians 6:12 (CSV) - 12 “Everything is permissible for me,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be mastered by anything.

Romans 6:2 - “We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?”

Salvation is both a onetime action,

and an ongoing process.

It is something God did TO you - Justification

and something God is doing IN you - sanctification

2 Corinthians 5:17  - 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!

How to Live a New Life In Christ.

 ~Don’t You Know? ~ “Reminders”

  1. We have been _______________________ into Christ.

Romans 6:3 - “ don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus…”

  • To live in Christ is to be ______________________ with Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:18-20 – “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us”

  1. We are (also) immersed into His __________________ & ___________________________.

Romans 6:3-5 - Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.

  • To live in Christ is to be ______________________ with Christ.

  1. Our __________  _____________ has been put to death.

Romans 6:6 -  “For we know that our old self was crucified with him...”

  1. Two Greek words for “Old”
  2.  Archaios – Old in time; as in fossils are old.
  3. Palaios -  Old in usage; as in a thing that is worn out, or useless and should be thrown away.
  4. Paul uses the word “palaios” for Old Self.

  • To live in Christ is to die to  _________________.

Galations 2:20 -  20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

  1. Sin has been made ______________________.

Romans 6:6 -  “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with…”

  1. “done away with” means “to be made powerless.”
  2. sin has been “brought to nothing.”    ESV

To live in Christ is to remember that while sin is still _________________________, it no longer has
__________ _______________ over you.
  1. We are ____________________ to sin no longer.

Romans 6:6-7 -  “we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

  • To live in Christ is to live in Freedom.

In Summery:

  1. We are both ________________ and __________________.

Romans 6:8-11 -  Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

"I am not what I ought to be.   I am not what I wish to be.

I am not what I hope to be.  But by the grace of God,

I am not what I was."

John Newton – Author of “Amazing Grace”
